An expose of creative talent from the staff of Abertay University.
For the first time ever the Hannah Maclure Centre has brought together the work of almost 40 staff members from across the university and we believe that it highlights, not only a work force with an immense array of talent but one that is prepared to go head to head with the critic; both amateur and professional.
Yesterday I managed to make it to the final day of the Vapour Trail Paint Jam up in the DPM Park off the Hilltown. A mix of some of Scotland and Ireland's best graffiti artists who spent 2 days covering the walls of the old Milk Pasturising factory with some amazing work.
I meant to put a piece up on here ages ago about this event, but better late than never I guess.
Vapour Trail is an Urban Art Event taking place in Dundee this weekend (26th and 27th July), so right now really if you are reading this today... if it's now next week or later then tough, you missed it.
One of the books I really enjoyed this year was the Nethergate writers' 'Roots' anthology. It's great big slice of Dundee and features a selection of short stories by various local authors. As she stepped into the palatial Creative Dundee studios, the book's editor, Esther Read, was keen to explain the genesis and themes of the Nethergate Writers. She also revealed a lot of useful advice for any budding writers or publishers out there. As ever, Esther charmingly combines instruction with insight.
Britain's favourite comic The Beano turns 70 in July, and we're
hosting the official anniversary exhibition featuring a wealth of
original artwork and memorabilia never before seen in public.
All your favourite characters will be included, from Lord Snooty and Little Plum to the Bash Street Kids and Dennis the Menace - as depicted by legendary artists such as Dudley D Watkins, David Law, Leo Baxendale and David Sutherland. The exhibition, which is being created in association with D C Thomson & Co Ltd, will be on show in the Lamb Gallery 18 July - 20 September.
On the eve of the Dundee Guitar Festival, Creative Dundee caught up with Allan Neave. As Director, it was bitter sweet for Allan to talk about the last Guitar Festival, after 17 years, as he looks forward to a fantastic programme and certainly, as you will hear, a finale on Sunday night that you won't want to miss. Very few things in life are free so its is amazing to think that the
Hannah Maclure Centre runs a free film programme in its 72 seat cinema.
Every second Monday Movie Club screens an array of cinematic classics. With an international film programme planned along with a week of science chicks in science flicks, a freshers film festival and a 'documentary musts' series satisfying the cinematic urge has never been easier.
