Talent Show - Ashleigh Watson
This weeks Talent show, and the first I have written, is recent graduate of DoJ Ashleigh Watson. Ashleigh is an illustrator and printmaker who has a very interesting illustrative method...
...she grows mold, then using high powered microscopes photographs it before illustrating the resulting image. This method has produced the most amazing other worldly work, the fact that they are all created as black and white only adds to this as it opens them to all sorts of interpretation.
The image at the top of this piece, for example, I could swear there is some deformed type running round the edge and I want to know what it says.
Other illustrations look like planets and strange solar systems to me, I just find them endlessly fascinating.
Ashleigh doesn't just produce work in this style, she has a very broad range of skills from digital through to traditional and these come out in some of her other work.
Ashleigh studied for 4 years and Dundee College completing an HND in Illustration before moving to Duncan of Jordanstone to complete a BA (Hons) Degee in Illustration for which she received a First Class Hons.
You can find out more and view her full portfolio here.
very very nice - an illustrator who uses and pencil, not a wacom tablet - a girl after my own heart!
