STV Dundee has launched a brand new award in conjunction with the Dundee Literary Festival, The Digital Spark Award.  Aimed at an arts and languages projects which incorporate social media, the winner will receive a prize of £1000.

STV Dundee is looking for the most innovative and quirky projects from across Scotland to prove that social media is the perfect platform to explore and enrich language.

The award is open to ongoing or planned non-commercial projects from across Scotland. With the Dundee Wall and poem on a peh napkin projects in mind, this award will champion those who are using social media in the same way.

A panel of industry expert judges, including STV’s head of digital publishing David Milne, will review the entries.

Peggy Hughes, Programme Director of the Dundee Literary Festival said: “It’s really exciting to be working with STV Dundee, an organisation that does so much to support and promote the creative energy in our City of Discovery​. The inaugural Digital Spark Award chimes brilliantly with what Dundee Literary Festival celebrates: the exploration of language, experimentation, new voices and innovation. We can’t wait to see what the prize and the evening will bring.”

David Milne, STV’s head of digital publishing said: “As part of the Dundee Literary Festival the STV Dundee Digital Spark Award brings together artists, poets and entrepreneurs. It is a fantastic way of celebrating the new and exciting ingenuity that social media creates. I am honoured to draw attention to what promises to be an array of diverse talent and look forward to being a member of the judging panel.”

The award is being run in conjunction with the Dundee Literary Festival and will culminate in a live pitch event in front of an audience. The five short-listed entries will present at Bonar Hall, Dundee on Sat October 25th at 7.30pm to a panel of judges. Each will have five minutes to impress the panel with their presentation and five minutes to take questions.

The format on the night will be candidates vying for five votes. The panel of judges will cast one vote each and the audience will have the fifth vote, which will be judged on who gains the most supportive tweets using #STVspark.
