For those of you who don't know; the DCA has a cinema. Yes, there are still some who can't get past the bar. The young woman in charge, who brought the Muppets' Christmas Carol this holiday season, is Alice Black. Alice has an interesting past and some very challenging ideas about the development of this vital part of Dundee's cultural life. She talks here to Chris Smith of Creative Dundee.

The Nethergate Writers are back

Esther Read and the Nethergate Writers have a new volume of short stories which will be in the bookshops from early June. Creative Dundee caught up with Esther Read and a couple of the writers.

Nethergate writers

One of the books I really enjoyed this year was the Nethergate writers' 'Roots' anthology. It's great big slice of Dundee and features a selection of short stories by various local authors. As she stepped into the palatial Creative Dundee studios, the book's editor, Esther Read, was keen to explain the genesis and themes of the Nethergate Writers. She also revealed a lot of useful advice for any budding writers or publishers out there. As ever, Esther charmingly combines instruction with insight.

If you thought the DCA was just a coffee bar with a cinema that showed movies with subtitles; you are wrong. The DCA is a whole lot more and Clive is the man to tell you why. In this interview, Clive is pretty clear about the role the arts can play in Dundee and it will take a lot of people by surprise.
